Hit to Death, or '10 Solipsistic Soundtracks' was the first album the band released under the banner of Warner Brothers, and the fact that large sums of money were thrown at this record is clearly evident in the music; while it could be argued that the album lacks the cohesion of In a Priest Driven Ambulance, there are wonderful moments that reveal the direction the band would later take. Their signing to Warners also heralded good times ahead for record collectors as marketing department stepped in to overdrive and started churning out any number of promos and single releases. (The fact that this album was released under the title of 'Collecter Scum Tantalizer' might hint at an ambivalent feeling amongst the band to this approach...) The LP version of Hit to Death was only released in Europe (possibly only in Greece, depending on who you listen to), and perhaps they lacked a significant fanbase that side of the Atlantic at the time; the fact of the matter it that this LP is high on the list of hardest-to-find Flaming Lips material.
