Much is made of the sequential increase in quality of Flaming Lips' album releases, from the enthusiastic amatuer efforts of Hear It Is, though Priest Driven Ambulance when things really began to gel, and on to the masterpieces of Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi. By and large it is an observation difficult to refute, however, Clouds Taste Metallic is a shining example of the 'Lips' genius. If you will permit a shamelessly subjective opinion, this remains my favourite and most listened-to album by the band, in spite of what was to come. In terms of the packaging, there's not much to report, save the lurid translucent green vinyl, and the A-side label that will gladden the hearts of any record enthusiast with it's 'eternal vinyl analogue audio' spoof of the compact disc logo. Now the re-issue on the other hand, that's worth some discussion...
